Everyone has there own 'visual' with respect to their cars. Some look for style, some for handling, others for acustics and even others shoot for power. I would guess that there are a majority that shoot for a combination of the four listed above. For those that know me, it has always been about the power...... As I have seen some neat writeups about Z ownership and the various progressions of the car along the way, here are a few memories I will share concerning my Z. The 1990 pearl yellow twin turbo was purchased from it's original owner here in Austin with 36K miles (49K miles now) on the clock. Kyle at SGP is working hard on wraping up this last rounds of mods and we have expectations for some impressive numbers with the 2835's. I also need to make a nod to Kuah at zedparts.com for being such a help along the way in terms of tech advice and being such a life-line for so many Japanese products. This was stage 3 (no tuning or timing tweaks-not even an air fuel readout)
All the bolt ons and 17 psi on the stock turbos(again, no tuning-plug and go)
17 psi on the stock turbos vs. 17 psi on SGP's t25/528's
SGP's T25/T28's with race fuel and more boost (still, no afc)
Built motor, cams and TD 05's @ 16 psi(finally got an afc)
Same setup with a little more boost (didn't quite hit 22 psi, closer to 21 on the dyno)
NOW, before there was the Z, there were a bunch of different sport cars. Immediately before the Z was my Trans Am. My wife HATED this car as it was a little too loud and rough.
Stock motor (except for forged pistons). This dyno shows the difference between the a-trim supercharger and s-trim. The ineresting story here is that a 300Z (with bolt ons and the HKS sport upgrade turbos on race fuel) outran me (barely) when I was putting down 400 rwhp in the Trans Am. The next Monday, the TA was back at the shop for the blower upgrade.
Lastly, 440 rwhp back in 1996 was a fair amount of street power. The Trans Am sitting next to a buddies BPU supra (the Trans Am was much faster).
I've always had a thing about outrunning Supras. That brings us where we are today; building a 300 to roll with some of the high HP Supras here in Austin. The saga for power continues..... Bryan
